By Decree 49/2026 (Official Gazette, January 27, 2026), the National Executive Branch ordered the extension of the national energy sector emergency with respect to the natural gas transmission and distribution segments, extending its validity until December 31, 2027.
The measure is based on the persistence of structural constraints in the natural gas transmission system, which prevent the simultaneous supply of domestic demand and exports without resorting, during winter periods, to the importation of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG). According to the preamble, capacity expansion projects would only allow this situation to be reversed starting in the winter of 2027, which justifies the extension of the emergency.
